How to Plan the Ultimate Road Trip
Everyone needs an epic summer adventure and the best way to find yours is by jumping in the car, rolling down the windows and hitting the open road. Make the most of your summer by planning the ultimate road trip with the tips below.
Pick a destination.
Before you embark on your journey, you need to know where you’re going. Begin by making a list of places you’d like to visit. Then, determine how much time and money you’d like to spend on your trip and pick a destination from the list that fits within your budget and timeframe.
Map out your route.
Once you’ve picked your destination, it’s time to choose your route! Decide whether you want to get to your destination as fast as possible, if you’d like to take a scenic route or if there are any activities you’d like to do along with way. Then you can determine where you want to stop to eat and stretch and your legs. If you’re driving through a large city, don’t forget to plan your schedule so you miss rush hour!
Prep your car.
Nothing derails a road trip quicker than car trouble. Avoid issues with your vehicle by taking it to a mechanic for a quick inspection and tune-up. Check your tire pressure, make sure your tires are in good condition and get an oil change if your car is due for one soon.
Gather your road trip essentials.
Once your route is mapped out and your vehicle is given the green light for the journey, make sure your car is packed with road trip essentials including:
- Your Driver’s License
- Car Manual
- Car Registration
- Car Charger
- Spare Key
- Portable Gas Container
- Hand Sanitizer
- Cash and Coins
- First Aid Kit
- Cooler with water and beverages
- Travel Pillow
Don’t forget the snacks.
Snacks are one of the best parts of a road trip so pack plenty of your favorites! Trail mix, pretzels, almonds and baby carrots are all great choices for the road. You can also plan a few stops at restaurants along the way for a fresh, hot snack or meal.
