5 Ways to Step Up Your Jack O’ Lantern Game
It’s always difficult to kiss summer goodbye, but as leaves change colors and temperatures drop, our anticipation rises for one of our favorite fall activities – pumpkin carving! Whether you prefer your jack o’ lantern cute or creepy, classic or creative, here are the 5 tips you need to create your best one yet!
Pick the perfect pumpkin.
A great jack o’ lantern begins with the perfect pumpkin. Look for a round, medium to large sized pumpkin, and avoid ones with soft spots. You can pick up a pumpkin from the grocery store, or head out to your local pumpkin patch if you’re feeling festive.
Prep your pumpkin.
Once you’ve brought your perfect pumpkin home, it’s time to start carving! Start by cutting a circle around the stem and removing the top of the pumpkin. Then, remove the pumpkin seeds and pulp with either your hands or an electric mixer and spoon.
Take a snack break.
Take a break from carving to whip up one of the best snacks of fall – roasted pumpkin seeds! Separate and wash the seeds from the rest of the pulp, then season with your favorite spices. Roast your seeds in the oven for 10 minutes or until golden-brown. If you’re in a baking mood, you can also make pumpkin puree from the pulp to throw in a pie, muffins, bread, cookies, a soup and more.
Give it personality.
Draw up a custom pattern for your pumpkin, search for inspiration on Pinterest or pick up a stencil from your local craft store – then get carving!
Don’t carve on an empty stomach.
You’ll work up an appetite carving a pumpkin. Make sure you can quiet your growling stomach with something that’ll hit the spot – like Lee’s! From pumpkin-carving to tailgating, Lee’s makes all your favorite fall activities famously fun! Find the location nearest you.
